Medication Support
At Fountaindale School, we recognise that many of our pupils require medication and healthcare support as part of their daily routine. We are committed to ensuring that medicines are administered safely, effectively and in accordance with each pupil's individual healthcare needs.
The school works closely with NHS professionals and healthcare teams to ensure staff receive the appropriate training required to support pupils with medical needs. Training is tailored to the needs of individual pupils and is regularly updated to ensure staff remain confident and competent in their roles.
Due to the complex needs of our learners, staff benefit from a comprehensive and ongoing training programme that adapts as pupils' needs change.
Our Medication Team
Fountaindale has two dedicated members of staff who form our Medication Team and lead this area across the school. They play a key role in ensuring high standards of practice and provide support, guidance and oversight for all medication procedures.
Their responsibilities include:
- Coordinating medication systems and procedures across school
- Ensuring medication records are accurate and up to date
- Liaising with families, healthcare professionals and NHS services
- Monitoring compliance with school policies and best practice guidance
Training and Competency
All staff involved in administering medication receive appropriate training before undertaking this responsibility. Training is delivered in partnership with NHS professionals and other specialist healthcare practitioners where appropriate.
This ensures that staff:
- Understand safe medication procedures
- Are confident in administering prescribed medication
- Can respond appropriately to individual healthcare needs
- Follow agreed healthcare plans and risk assessments
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
Regular updates and refresher training help ensure that standards remain high and that staff continue to meet the needs of our pupils safely and effectively.
Working in Partnership
Supporting pupils' health needs requires strong partnerships between school, families and healthcare professionals. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that we have accurate information about medication and medical conditions, enabling us to provide safe and effective support throughout the school day.
