At Fountaindale School, our Rights Respecting School Council plays a vital role in promoting pupil voice and ensuring that children's rights are at the heart of school life. As a Rights Respecting School, we believe that every pupil has the right to be heard and to have their views considered in decisions that affect them.

Each academic year, every class selects a School Council representative to act as the voice of their classmates. These representatives gather the views, ideas and suggestions of their peers and bring them to council meetings, ensuring that all pupils have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our school community.

The School Council meets twice each half-term and follows a structured agenda. During meetings, members discuss issues that are important to pupils, share ideas for improving school life, and take part in activities linked to children's rights and wider school priorities. Representatives then return to their classes to share key messages and gather further feedback.

As ambassadors for our Rights Respecting work, School Council members help to promote the values of respect, inclusion and participation throughout the school. They encourage their peers to understand both their own rights and the rights of others, while helping to develop a school culture where everyone feels valued, listened to and empowered to make a positive difference.

Through the School Council, pupils develop important skills in communication, leadership, teamwork and decision-making, preparing them to become active and responsible members of their communities.
