5.6.26 - Headteachers message to families

Belong, Engage, Enjoy!
Welcome back:
Welcome back to everyone following the half-term break. It has been a busy but positive return to school, with pupils and staff quickly settling back into routines. Thankfully, the weather has been a little cooler than it was during the break, which has made the week much more comfortable.
As a football fan, I can also feel the World Cup excitement beginning to build. Our staff sweepstake has certainly created plenty of discussion, with the new 48-team format meaning not everyone was thrilled with their draw!
Outdoor Learning Week:
This week, pupils have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our Outdoor Learning Week. From Forest School sessions and bushcraft activities to den building, outdoor exploration, and teamwork challenges, there have been lots of opportunities for pupils to learn, develop new skills, and have fun outdoors. Hopefully, you have enjoyed seeing some of the fantastic photos shared on Seesaw throughout the week. A huge thank you to Louise and Majella for organising such a successful event and to everyone who helped make it a memorable experience for our pupils.
Nottinghamshire County Cricket:
We are delighted to be welcoming coaches from Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club into school over the next three weeks to deliver Kwik Cricket sessions for our pupils. They will be set up in our school hall on Thursday mornings. We are looking forward to pupils developing their cricket skills and enjoying this exciting opportunity.
Portland College Events:
Our friends at Portland have kindly shared the following events with us, which may be of interest to families. Please see the information below for further details.

Father's Day Enterprise Gifts:
Our Woodpeckers Enterprise Team has been busy creating a special Father's Day stall, which is now set up in reception. The pupils have worked hard to prepare a range of gifts, and we would love your support. If you are visiting school over the coming days, please take a look!
Update from the Meds Team:
Please can you make sure that you update your pharmacy labels when changes have been made (from a paediatrician) to medications to be given in school as soon as possible. The meds team will need to see the new dose on the prescription label to follow. If the dose has been increased or decreased after a month this should be written and updated onto a new prescription label.
Creative Arts Week - 15th- 19th June 2026:
We are looking forward to our upcoming Creative Arts Week taking place from Monday 15th June to Friday 19th June 2026.
Throughout the week, pupils will enjoy a variety of exciting activities including:
- E-Music workshops
- Drumming sessions
- A collaborative outdoor art activity
- A live puppet show
- Dance and movement activities
- A special Carlton Brass Band concert
These activities will give pupils opportunities to explore creativity through music, art, dance and performance with both school staff and visiting providers.
Weekly Safeguarding Update - Screen Time and Digital Balance:
As we move towards the summer months, it can be helpful to reflect on our children's use of technology. While devices can be fantastic tools for learning, communication and entertainment, it is important to help children develop healthy digital habits.
Simple steps such as having screen-free mealtimes, keeping devices out of bedrooms at night, and encouraging outdoor play and activities can make a positive difference. Regular conversations about what children are doing online are just as important as setting time limits.
